Description |
The unexpected 'No Name' storm destroyed much of southern Captiva. Ten foot seas undermined roads, buildings, and trees and the wind-driven tides re-opened Blind Pass and caused flooding which cut the island off from Sanibel for most of the day. Gulf-front property owners reported upwards of 15 feet of beach lost to the waves, and the severe damage to Captiva Road (by 'Tween Waters Inn) restricted island traffic and forced round-the-clock repairs by county road crews to make the thoroughfare passable - at an eventual cost estimated at $200,000. |
