Board Directors Dave Jensen, Kristie Anders, Mike Boris met with Reverend John Carter and his son-in-law Bill Rupe. Rev. Carter is the grandson of George Washington Carver, one of Captiva's first homesteaders. (The GW Carter family homesteaded the property which, at the time of this visit, is known as South Seas Island Resort.) Reverend Carter lived on Captiva until age 7. These photos, taken by Queenie Viglione, show Rev. Carter visiting with the Directors in the CIHS History Gallery. It is worthy to note, at the time of his visit, Rev. Carter was 96 years young and still gives three sermons a week at his home church, Okolona Baptist, in Louisville, Kentucky. |
