Carter is the grandson of George Washington Carver, one of Captiva's first homesteaders. The photos show "Lists of raises on property" from the year 1897. The list is handwritten on letterhead paper from Wm. M. Hendry, Clerk of Circuit Court, Lee County, Florida, and among the names listed are those of Captiva Island land owners, W.H. Binder and G.M. Ormsby.
